67th annual Scottsdale Parada del Sol canceled

January 26, 2021 by Scottsdale Charros

Parade, block party postponed to 2022

The organizers of the Scottsdale Parada del Sol have announced the 2021 parade and Trail’s End Festival have been canceled.

“After careful consideration the 2021 Scottsdale Parada del Sol Parade and Trail’s End Festival has been postponed,” said Parada del Sol Parade Chairman Jose Leon.

The Parada board has been monitoring the COVID-19 situation and agreed the viability of holding the parade became highly improbable and the “Hats Off to Essential Workers” theme should be saved until 2022, according to a press release.

“We support the difficult decision made by the Parada board and will again be working with them planning the 2022 Parada,” said Dennis Robbins of the Scottsdale Charros.

In December, it was announced the annual event would be rescheduled for April 17. In year’s past, the Parada del Sol occured in February.

The Parada was created by Scottsdale community leaders 67 years ago to draw visitors to the dusty Old Town area to create business to small retail stores and hotels.

Every year Parada leaders round up their volunteers to plan the details even though most also have full-time jobs, the press release stated.

In 2018, these teams were honored by the Arizona Governor’s Tourism travel professionals for exceptional efforts to plan this vibrant, volunteer-driven event and the Public Relations Society of America Phoenix Chapter recognized them with a prestigious Copper Anvil Award.

“We can’t thank our sponsors enough for bringing this historic event to Scottsdale over many years and look forward to our partnerships again in 2022,” said Mr. Leon.
