horse rules
We fully understand that many of you have never been on a trail ride, or have only been on a
horse a few times. We do not expect you to memorize all of these tips, and will have 15
professional wranglers riding with us that can help you with whatever you may need. It is my
priority that you are relaxed, have fun, and enjoy The Ride!
The following rules are for safety of both horse/rider:
- NEVER ride ahead of the Trail Boss.
- Offer your horse water before and after each ride.
- If you need assistance with your horse or equipment (i.e., you think your cinch is loose), please see a
- GreyEyes Trail Horses Wrangler.
- Do not allow your horse to lope or run on the way home, it teaches bad habits. Do not run your horse by other riders. No free-lance riding. Do not run or lope your horse on the trail – period.
- Never turn your horse loose; he/she may leave you to walk home!
- When tying your horse leave some slack, but not enough so that it can step through the rope, the horse may panic and injure itself.
- Never tie your horse up by the reins, use the lead rope. Do not tie your horse to a barbed-wire fence.
- Never tie one horse to another, or to another’s saddle.
- Do not trade horses with a friend, your horse has been selected to match your height, weight, and riding ability; you or the horse could be injured. If you would like a different horse, see GreyEyes Trail Horses Wrangler.
- Do not ride drunk! In the interest of safety, you may be asked to walk.
