The Scottsdale Charros have a rich history of supporting education through programs based within the Scottsdale Unified School District. SUSD principals are important partners in distributing funds to schools, teachers, and students.
Charros Liaison Program
The Charros support SUSD by investing not only dollars but their time as well, through the Charro Liaison Program. What makes our Liaison program so special? There are 30 members – boots on the ground – dedicated to working with each of our 30 schools, bringing programs, resources and scholarships to the schools and recognizing the district’s outstanding students and educators.
Outstanding Teacher of the Year
Each year, the Charros honor 34 SUSD teachers. Submissions will open January 10, 2024 and are due January 31, 2024. Please select your teacher and be prepared to submit a few sentences about why this teacher was selected by your school.

Outstanding Student of the Year
Each year, the Charros honor one female and one male high school senior for each of the five SUSD high schools. Submissions will open January 10, 2024 and are due January 31, 2024. High school principals, please select your students and be prepared to submit a few sentences about why these students were selected.

Liaison Funding Request
The Scottsdale Charros have a proud tradition of serving as liaisons to SUSD Schools to help facilitate the funding of school projects and programs. In connection with our liaison program, the Charros provide each SUSD school with $2,000 in discretionary funding this year. Submissions will open January 10, 2024 and are due January 31, 2024. You will be asked to submit a description of how you plan to use the Charros’ funds.

Education Grants
In addition to the $2,000 each SUSD school receives via the Charro Liaison Program, schools can apply for additional financial assistance for projects, equipment, and programs related to the classroom, athletics, or infrastructure that are not currently funded through traditional streams. Eight (8) Charros Education Grants of $5,000 each will be awarded this year. Submissions will open January 10, 2024 and are due January 31, 2024. You will be asked to provide an overview of the project, the need for funding, and what you hope to achieve as well as a description in detail how the funds would be utilized in addressing the needs.

Safe Haven Scholarship
The Scottsdale Charros are grateful for Save Haven Defense and the Johnson family’s interest in and support of our important work to improve education in the Scottsdale community. The Scottsdale Charros Safe Haven scholarship is designed to recognize one student graduating from an SUSD high school in 2024 demonstrated superior achievement with a $50,000 college scholarship. Attending an SUSD public high school is a requirement to receive this scholarship.The deadline for this scholarship was March 23, 2024. Please check back in January 2025.
Future Teacher Scholarships
The Future Teacher Scholarship was established by the Charro Foundation to encourage high school seniors in the Scottsdale Unified School District (SUSD) to pursue a career as a teacher. Each year, two $25,000 four-year scholarships are awarded to students who demonstrate outstanding achievement in both academic and non-academic activities during their high school years. Please encourage students to apply starting January 10, 2024.

Scottsdale Community College Scholarships
The Scottsdale Charros have been proud supporters of Scottsdale Community College since the school’s inception in the 1960s. In the spring of 2015, the first Charro Foundation Scottsdale Community College Scholarship was created. This $5,000 two-year scholarship is awarded to an SUSD high school graduate who is attending Scottsdale Community College. Please encourage students to apply starting January 10, 2024.

Scottsdale Champion Scholarships
The Scottsdale Charros have a long history of supporting Scottsdale’s youth through scholarships, grants, and other education-based initiatives. The Scottsdale Champion scholarship is designed to recognize one male and one female Scottsdale resident who have demonstrated superior achievement in high school with a one-time $2,500 scholarship. Attending an SUSD public school is not a requirement to receive this scholarship. Please encourage students to apply starting January 10, 2024.

Grand Canyon University Scholarship
GCU has been an incredible partner to the Scottsdale Charros and to Scottsdale public schools. This scholarship honors one SUSD senior who will be attending Grand Canyon University in the fall with a one-time $2,500 scholarship. Please encourage students to apply starting January 10, 2024.

Project Graduation
The Scottsdale Charros support Project Graduation events in SUSD schools to help provide a safe event on graduation night free from alcohol, drugs, and late-night driving. Each year, five high schools benefit from $2,000 scholarships to help fund their events. The Charros will not fund costs for trips outside of Arizona such as Disneyland or Six Flags. Please encourage your PTO (or similar organization) to apply on January 10, 2024.

Public Safety Cadet Scholarships
In 2021, the Charros introduced The Charro Foundation Public Safety Cadet Scholarship, awarding two $5,000 scholarships: one Scottsdale Police Cadet Scholarship and one Scottsdale Fire Cadet Scholarship.

Scottsdale Charros Education Awards
Save the date for Friday, April 19, 2024 for the 37th Annual Charros Education Banquet. All principals are invited to bring a guest to celebrate the award and scholarship recipients. Invitations will be issued in March.
Youth Luncheon & Baseball Clinic
The Scottsdale Charros are dedicated to serving and supporting SUSD students, teachers and schools through a broad spectrum of educational programs, including the Youth Luncheon & Baseball Clinic. The 2024 Youth Luncheon is scheduled for April 4 at Scottsdale Stadium. More information will be shared with prinicipals by the District.
