Scottsdale is on its way to begin renovations at the beloved downtown stadium, after a funding agreement for nearly $50.6 million was reached.
During a March 19 Scottsdale City Council meeting, elected officials unanimously approved a memorandum of understanding with the San Francisco Giants and the Scottsdale Charros requiring binding capital financial commitments to Phase 1 of the Scottsdale Stadium renovation project.
The Charro Lodge’s VIP experience at Scottsdale Stadium can be summed up with three words: shade, service and socializing.
“It’s just a great atmosphere,” said Dennis Robbins, executive director of the Scottsdale Charros. “People are here not really to watch baseball, but just to socialize and hang out.”
The Scottsdale Charros have been hosting spring training baseball since 1961, with the Charro Lodge opening its doors in 1996.
By the year 2060 the amount of Americans who are at least 65 years old will double to a staggering 98 million people, translating into nearly 25 percent of the population living through the “golden years.”
The community of Scottsdale could be a glimpse into the future demographics of the United States of America.
In the last formal census count it was revealed about 20 percent of the Scottsdale population — a community of 246,000 residents, which makes it the nation’s 92nd largest municipality — are at least 65 years old.
